Week 4 of the high school football season is already in the books. The season really flies!

Our high school game this past Friday was a great game! Columbus Bishop Watterson came down to Cincinnati to play Winton Woods.

Watterson busted a long run down their sideline on the 4th play of the game, and just like that. I had to call a sideline warning. Officials, I will tell you that if you are having a problem with the sidelines staying out of the white, throw your flag. It is not something that I like to do by any means, but I am there to officiate the game and not worry about seeing someone out of the corner of my eye and running into them. The sideline was great the rest of the night.

The teams were playing hard and it was 14-14 at the half. The second half came down to the 4th quarter with about 5 minutes to go as Winton Woods scored to make it 20-14. However, they missed the extra point. So we were prepared for an intense finish. But on the kickoff Watterson lost the ball on a fumble. Winton Woods kicked a field and sealed the deal with a 23-14 win.

As a crew we had a solid game the players definitely kept us on our P's and Q's. Unfortunately we had to call about 4 personal fouls in the game.

After it was all said and done it was a good night. My wife came to the game with one of her friends and they couldn't wait for us all to go out to eat afterwards.

That is my wife's favorite part of the night.

Father's Day Weekend

Nothing special planned this weekend for Father's Day. May stop by my dad's and my father-in-law's tomorrow.

I received my college football schedule yesterday. Last year I was fortunate to get several games close to home. No such luck this year. Only one game is within a hour's driving distance. It's ok, just means more fun conversations with the crew on the long road trips again.

After reffing the semi-pro game last Saturday night, I'm really looking forward to getting back out on the field consistently.

Next Saturday I'll be reffing some basketball that should help getting me ready for the season.

Life

It's been a long year. Haven't updated in awhile. Family, work, and officiating have taken any extra time that I may have had.

I've been asked several time by people why haven't I been updating my blog and the items listed above are why. So hopefully I will be able to blog this upcoming season of football and wrestling.

Speaking of football, I officiated a Semi-Pro game on Saturday night. I was worried that I would be a little out of shape for it, but actually I was fine and it was really great to get back out there on the field and run the sidelines. Maybe reallize how much I miss officiating with the crew.

Got my college football schedule today. Between high school and college, I'll be officiating over 20 games again.

To be continued...

2009

I mentioned back on August 21st that it has been a different kind of offseason for me and I meant it. The economy effected my place of employment and I am very blessed to have made it through the year with a job. With that said my position at work changed and it made it really tough for me to keep up with the blog over this past season.

However, it is now time for wrestling and I will blogging once again. But before I get into that I can recount my most memorable football game this past year with ease. That's because it was the last college football game that we had.

Earlham @ Denison

Denison controlled most of game and had a 17-0 lead in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately one of the Earlham players was injured. All of his teammates were geniunely concerned as they rallied around him before he was taken off the field by the paramedics. They wer convinced to come back and win for their teammate. Next thing you know it was 17-7, 17-14, and with 33 seconds left Earlham took the lead 21-17.

Denison marched right down the field and with no time on the clock through about a 40 yard pass down towards my side of the field and our Back Judge had a flag because the defense interfered with the receiver. So we had one untimed down and the offense tried again down my sideline but the pass fell to the ground and just like that my season was over. What an intense way for it to end.

One thing, though. I fibbed a little unintentionally. Thinking back the most memorable moment this year was our Line Judge getting JACKED UP ON A NON-PLAY! He was rushing up the field in preparation for an onside kick and the team on our side was short a player. So at the same time one of the biggest players on this field ran at the same time. They were both running full speed and it was crazy to observe. Our poor LJ went flying and he had a laceration above his left eye and man was he woozy.

We didn't show him a lot of sympathy though. He's a former Marine and we knew he could take it. Sorry Jonesy, but you're the man none the less.
